Hello and welcome to the Pit Bull Dangers Blog.

Here at Pit Bull Dangers Blog and at our Community site PitBullDangers.com we are striving to educate the public on the dangers of and truth about Pit Bulls and other dangerous dogs.  There are many myths out there and a ton of misinformation, misguided statements and even outright lies on this subject. However here on Pit Bull Dangers Blog and on PitBullDangers.com you will find only the truth, the facts and be able to verify all information 100%.

The subject is a highly emotional and contentious one which leads to the plethora of false statements by many well meaning people who often are not even aware of the fallibility of the information they are blindly repeating. Pit Bulls are the most dangerous dog in the world today as evidenced by many studies, hospital records and victims accounts. Dog bites in general are the second most costly public health problem in America today.

These issues must be addressed. We must take measures to protect our children, our families, our friends and our neighbors from the most vicious of these attacks.

We must either CONTROL them or BAN them.

The poll results are at

the article is at
Woman Wants Charges Against Man Who Shot Dog
http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/29033382/detail.html

The strange thing about this is that the woman is not the dogs owner, she is just a pit owner in the neighborhood. Obviously afraid her dogs will be shot. All I can say is if she keeps her dogs under proper control and does not allow them around other people who do not want to be around them then she has nothing to worry about unlike all her neighbors who have to worry about their safety as long as she lives in the area and owns dangerous dogs. It seems pit owners are getting more and more militant in that now they do not even want any of us to have the right to defend ourselves, our family, our pets or our property from them or their dangerous choices.

Pit Bull and Dangerous Dog Laws

August 29, 2011 // Posted in BSL, General, Laws, Pit Bulls  |  No Comments

Pit Bull and Dangerous dog laws need to start with restrictions on the animals in public including muzzling at all times among other steps listed below.

Next they need to require micro-chipping and licensing of all animals.
Third they need to require adequate insurance for all large breed dogs capable of and known to kill people.
Fourth they need to incur substantial penalties for infractions of these requirements and even jail time for repeated offenses.
Fifth they need to strictly regulate breeders, pet stores, rescues and shelters. Making them keep accurate records and report all sales including the name, address of the buyers. This needs to be done anytime one of these type animals is sold or changes homes anywhere at anytime.
Sixth they need to make every owner 100% responsible for any action of their animal just as if the owner committed the act themselves.

These steps would prevent the vast majority of attacks, injuries and deaths. This would also put those who refuse to obey the laws behind bars sooner rather than later. These steps would help to provide for the victims in the rare cases that would still happen and do a world of good in protecting the public from the animals, owners and others who financially profit from the breeding and or sale of these animals.

Pit Bull owners stand and watch attack in Australia.

August 19, 2011 // Posted in General  |  No Comments

In what is one of the two most shocking incidents I have yet heard about involving Pit Bulls and their Owners the owners of the Pit Bull Mix that attacked Ayen Chol in St Albans, northwest Melbourne watched the attack and never tried to stop their dog other than calling it verbally. This is even worse than when James Lech tried to outright lie and blame a small girl for his dogs unprovoked attack on the girl. It seems that more and more in my daily research I run across pit owners trying to lie to protect these inherently dangerous and unpredictable creatures. These animals have no business being allowed in our cities and neighborhoods and certainly not anywhere near our children.

The link to the Melbourne incident is;

You can veiw the video f the attack by James Lech’s so called rehabilitated therapy dog below, be warned however it does show the attack as well as the period leading up to it.

Myths and Misinformation Part 2 of 2

Most people can find a ton of information online easily about Pit Bulls and Dangerous Dogs. The problem is the vast majority of this information is not cited, sourced or accurate. Even when it is sourced most sources are just other sites spreading the same opinions, rumors, or misinformation. This leads many well meaning people to repeat these statements as if they are fact when in truth they are not.

Myth: It is always the owner never the dog

Truth: While the owner can make a difference no amount of training, nurture or socializing an animal can change its nature, genetic heritage or instinctual behavior. Pointers will point, retrievers will retrieve, fighting dogs will fight, and this is true without training or even after being trained not to. Humans can choose to act upon instinct or not act upon it; dogs do not have that choice. Many type dogs are owned by the same type people as pit bulls, are abused like pit bulls, and are trained to fight like pit bulls. Many of these type dogs out number pit bulls yet pit bulls maim, maul and kill more people than all other dogs combined. This proves that it is not just the owner or treatment of the animal that makes them so dangerous.

Myth: BSL and Laws do not work

Truth: If laws do not work then why do we have them? Because they do work, while some may not obey the law most people do. Most of those people who do not will eventually wind up in court or in jail as it right. Thus laws do work and are needed in many areas especially in protecting human life from dangerous animals and their irresponsible owners.

Myths and Misinformation Part 1 of 2

Most people can find a ton of information online easily about Pit Bulls and Dangerous Dogs. The problem is the vast majority of this information is not cited, sourced or accurate. Even when it is sourced most sources are just other sites spreading the same opinions, rumors, or misinformation. This leads many well meaning people to repeat these statements as if they are fact when in truth they are not.

Myth: Temperament testing by the ATTS proves pits are less dangerous, less aggressive etc.

Truth: The temperament test was developed by Alfons Ertelt in 1977. Mr Ertelt was not an animal behaviorist, he worked in the print industry but his passion was dogs and he was involved in schutzhund. (schutzhund is a dog sport that mirrors the training of police dog work and it is dominated by german shepherds) The ATTS test was initially intended to test working dogs for jobs such as police work. When looking at its scoring system you realize that it rewards aggressive dogs and penalizes timid or calm dogs meaning it in no way tests for the suitability of these dogs to be around people or be pets at all.

Myth: Pit Bulls have been called the Nanny Dog

Truth:  This myth was started by statements made by two people. Mrs. Lilian Rant, President, Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America, magazine editor said they are referred to as a nursemaid dog in an interview published in the New York Times in 1971. Second in 1987 Toronto Star article where Breeder Kathy Thomas, president of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Association said “In England, our Staffies were called the nanny-dog”. No sources or evidence just two heavily vested and bias people’s statements started this whole myth.
